Southern group of motoring writers charity grand prix supports women on the move against cancer

01 June 2022.

Women On the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC) was recently chosen by the Southern Group of Motoring Writers (SGMW) Charity Grand Prix event as its nominated charity, which raised a whopping £2,550.

The event took place at TeamSport Crawley and was joined by many people in the automotive industry.

WOMAC’s karting team made up of Stuart Bird, Sean Ward, Richard Parsons and Phill Tromans finished fourth of the 12 teams when the chequered flag was waved.

WOMAC’s two charities for 2022 are Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Maggie’s.

They have both received £1,000 so far this year, and the money raised at this event is a welcome boost as WOMAC strives to reach its £15,000 target split across the two worthy causes.

Both charities provide care and support for those going through a cancer diagnosis.

Funds raised will go towards expert advice, counselling services, patient grants and research projects.

Massimo Pini, Event Co-ordinator said: “It was great to be back on track with one of our biggest fund-raisers of the year and fulfil our promise to WOMAC which was originally to have coincided with its 40th anniversary - but the pandemic put paid to that.

The Southern Group of Motoring Writers is a big supporter of the charity and we are proud to have WOMAC patrons Sue Baker, Sarah Bradley and Claire Evans among our membership.”

Georgia Fox, Chair of WOMAC, said: “I’m very grateful to SGMW for selecting WOMAC as its nominated charity for this event, and to raise such a significant amount is truly incredible.

“Special thanks must go to Richard Parsons who once again gave WOMAC his time for free to photograph the event and race for us, and our other racers.

A huge thank you to everyone that donated, we are always humbled by the amount of support we receive.”

Next up for WOMAC is its annual party and details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

About Roy Castle Lung Cancer FoundationRoy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease.

Since 1990, when the charity was set up by Professor Ray Donnelly, we have funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives.

We support everyone affected by lung cancer - from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care.

We raise awareness, prevent future generations from getting it and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer.

We do all this so those diagnosed can live well with lung cancer for as long as possible.
