WOMAC and jo's trust

Around 200 people came together to raise support and cancer awareness at Women On the Move Against Cancer’s (WOMAC) annual fundraising event on 22 February at Chelsea Old Town Hall, London.

Since 1979, when WOMAC was founded, more than 50 charities have received in excess of £900,000 in donations.

These generous contributions have gone towards supporting a range of projects, from funding counsellors, supplying flowers and benches in hospice gardens, and providing reclining chairs in treatment rooms, as WOMAC strives to support the many all-important research projects that are helping to improve cancer diagnoses and treatment.

Following her speech, newly-elected Chair Georgia Fox invited Penny Mallory to the stage to help WOMAC - an organisation run by approximately 65 female volunteers working in the automotive and associated industries - hand over the first instalment of its pledge of £15,000, to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

This year, WOMAC has pledged its full support to the London-based charity and will fund various activities to raise awareness of cervical cancer and its symptoms to women and their families, as well as medical professionals throughout 2017.

Improvements in awareness mean helping to achieve earlier diagnosis and prevention.

Encouraging more young women aged 25 to 30 to attend their cervical screening will enable treatment to begin sooner and could help to save hundreds of lives every year.

Hannah Taylor and Niamh Kilalea of Jo’s Trust said: “Our mission is to build a future where cervical cancer is a thing of the past”.
