Women On the Move Against Cancer annual fundraiser beats £15,000 target

Women On the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC) recently held its annual fundraising event at an exclusive private members club in London, raising £15,100 for its chosen charities for 2024.

Oesophageal Patients Association (OPA) and Cure Leukaemia will benefit equally from the funds raised through the generosity of attendees at the special event.

WOMAC pledged to donate £7,500 to each of the charities but thanks to the sell-out event and generosity of its guests on the night, it was able to achieve that target in the first fundraising event for the year.

Further donations will be secured via other fundraising initiatives in 2024, including a friend taking part in the London Marathon, the Southern Group of Motoring Writers karting event and ‘WOMAC weeks’ later in the year.

OPA has led the fight against oesophageal and gastric cancers for more than 30 years supporting patients, families and carers while also raising awareness of these cancers and their prevention.

The donation to OPA will go towards a new website which will breathe new life into the charity’s identity and attract more attention from potential donors, volunteers, and partners.

Other funds will be used for OPA Booklets which are added to their online shop, free of charge, for patients, caregivers, families, NHS Hospitals and other centres.

The funds raised from the party and other events it has run throughout the year will help us support and guide more patients, caregivers and their families through difficult times and uncertainty.”

Cure Leukaemia was established in 2003 with the mission to allow patients with blood cancer in the Birmingham region to access new treatments.

Since then, the charity has expanded to a national level offering potentially life-saving treatments to patients across the UK.

Cure Leukaemia will directly invest the donation from WOMAC into the TAP Network, which consists of 15 Research Nurses based across the UK’s biggest cities, who work to connect patients to world-class and potentially life-saving blood cancer clinical trials.
