Women on the move against cancer confirms 2022 charities
  • £40 could pay for someone with cancer to get expert benefits advice, helping them focus on their treatment and less on the struggle of supporting their family
  • £50 could mean someone who has just been told they have cancer will get immediate support from one of Maggie’s trained Cancer Support Specialists
  • £90 could pay for a family that is struggling to cope with a cancer diagnosis to see one of Maggie’s psychologists, who can help them to communicate and work through difficult feelings

14 February 2022.

Women On the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC) has now selected two charities that will be the recipients of donations in 2022 - Maggie’s and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Maggie’s is a charity providing free cancer support and information at centres across the UK as well as online.

Its aim is to help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, and the team offers professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.

WOMAC’s donations will enable Maggie’s to offer vital practical and emotional support to people with cancer and their families:

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease.

Founded in 1990, the charity has funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible to save lives.

In addition, it supports everyone affected by lung cancer from diagnosis through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care.

A donation from WOMAC will fund patient grants and support groups and research projects.

For 2022, WOMAC has set a target of £15,000 - £7500 for each charity - and plans to hold its annual party, which was sadly put on hold in 2021 due to the pandemic.

The Committee and its Patrons are currently investigating venues for a summer party in 2022, but have already started collecting prizes for the raffle and tombola, which are held on the night, giving away some amazing items from event tickets, to car loans, branded merchandise and much more.

It is never too early to start thinking about donations and WOMAC would welcome any prizes - please contact Georgia on +44 7973 915199 or georgia@simsimages.co.uk.

Georgia Fox, Chair of WOMAC, said: “The two charities we have selected for 2022 are both incredibly worthy causes and hold a place in many of the hearts of our Committee and Patrons, some of which have sadly experienced the support provided by these incredible organisations first-hand.

“We will continue to work hard to raise funds and with the return of our party in 2022 I’m certain we can reach our target, if not exceed it.

I’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support in what has been a difficult year for many.”

About Roy Castle Lung Cancer FoundationRoy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease.

Since 1990, when the charity was set up by Professor Ray Donnelly, we have funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives.

We support everyone affected by lung cancer - from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care.

We raise awareness, prevent future generations from getting it and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer.

We do all this so those diagnosed can live well with lung cancer for as long as possible.
